On August 27th, that belief came to life at BioSTL’s Breakthrough 25 Gala, bringing together the civic, nonprofit, corporate and bioscience leaders who have helped shape St. Louis into a growing hub for innovation.
The evening was more than a celebration of the past 25 years. It was a celebration of the people, partnerships and breakthroughs that are carrying St. Louis into its next chapter.
A Legacy Built Together
For a quarter century, BioSTL has worked at the intersection of science, entrepreneurship, investment and community—helping turn the region’s research strengths into companies, jobs and technologies that can make a difference far beyond St. Louis.
That work has never happened in isolation.
It has taken researchers willing to pursue bold ideas. Entrepreneurs willing to take risks. Investors willing to see potential before others do. Corporations willing to open doors. Civic leaders willing to champion innovation. And countless partners who have believed that St. Louis can—and should—be a place where transformative science becomes transformative impact.
The Breakthrough Gala brought many of those people together under one roof.
And it offered a chance to say thank you.

A highlight of the evening was a special tribute to Bill Danforth, whose leadership and vision have left an enduring mark on St. Louis.
Danforth represents the kind of civic leadership that has helped make the region’s innovation ecosystem possible: a willingness to think decades ahead, bring people together and invest in the institutions that make progress possible.
His story is also part of a much larger St. Louis story—one defined by leaders who have understood that our region’s greatest strength is what happens when institutions and individuals work together toward something bigger than themselves.

For a disease where earlier detection can make a profound difference, innovations like this represent more than scientific progress. They represent hope—and a reminder that breakthroughs being developed in St. Louis today could change lives around the world tomorrow.
